PRODUCT DISCOVERY
Discovery is not delivery: It is not solution design. It is about understanding the problem well enough to make confident decisions.

Entry criteria

Before starting discovery, check that these are true.

✓

Clear problem or opportunity

Avoid jumping to solutions early.

✓

Business owner identified

Stakeholders are involved early, not only at sign-off.

✓

Time-boxed scope

Discovery should have a clear window, such as one to three weeks.

✓

Product Owner accountable

The PO owns the discovery and decides when it is done.

✓

Stakeholders identified

Know who is involved and who only needs to be informed.

Roles and responsibilities

Expand each role to see how they contribute.

Product Owner

Owns the discovery, frames the problem, ensures lightweight documentation exists and decides when discovery is done.

Stakeholders / Business SMEs

Provide context, constraints and success criteria; participate in interviews and workshops; validate findings.

Design / UX

Supports user research, journey mapping and testing of assumptions or concepts where applicable.

Engineering / Tech Lead

Advises on feasibility, complexity and constraints and identifies technical risks early.

Required outputs

Discovery is complete when these outputs are visible and shared.
